RE: I am a strong Bronco supporter, but there are things he can do to lose me
Moving to a run first QB offense will mean sporadic bursts for the O, mired in mediocre O most of the time. Look at Rocky Long at SDSU and at UNM before that. Rocky likes a QB who is as tough as a LB. It is a great formula to beat lesser opponents but struggles to beat P5s who are bigger, stronger, and faster. If Bronco wants an O with a shot of beating anybody, anytime, then he needs to back away from a running QB O and focus on a pass first QB O. I don't blame Bronco for going run first with Taysom, but BYU cannot fill a steady stable of QBs like Taysom.

Another downside to a run first QB is more QB injuries. Look at Taysom, 2 season ending injuries in 3 years. Look at Chuckie Keeton, same thing. Look at RG3, more of the same. A run first QB offense gets the QB hit more and hurt more - so you need a deeper stable at QB. The LDS culture simply does not produce enough speed to stock the QB position with steady talent like that. The LDS culture does produce a regular stream of quality pass first QB who beat you with savvy play, rather than more brawn.

With the upcoming schedules, Bronco will need a better O to produce winning seasons. I am hoping he gives Howell enough guidance that the D will be fine, if not, then yes, it could get ugly.
