No one bats an eye when it is said, "we need to recruit more polys" but suddenly
some do when it is said, "We need to recruit more black/african-american players." Amusing.

Also, in theory, yes, if I want the fasted guys available as an olympic coach to win a 100 meter track competition I don't care if the fastest guy's are white, poly, black, asian, hispanic, etc. But in reality, I better get to recruiting top black sprinters and concentrate on the US (via west african decent) and Jamaica (also via west african decent), cause that is where the majority of the fastest runners in history are from.

I believe of the all-time fastest 100 meter times in history, the first white guy's time comes in at #225, by Christophe Lemaitre in 2011 from France, and its not due to a lack of opportunity or training or motivation for white sprinters. If as a coach I waste my time saying race doesn't matter and look for the fastest guys among non-black sprinters, I won't last long as a coach, even if I am a great track teacher and trainer. (Obviously, people are not obtaining/acquiring their speed from their skin color, but it is a trait that the fasted people in history share. So in a certain way, one could say skin color is relevant.) And I don't think there is a poly in the top 2,000 100 meter times that I briefly scanned on the internet a while ago (I know we are all made up of more than one heredity). Speed in track obviously relates to the coveted speed that coaches desire for their football teams. Many of the fastest college football teams (and most nfl drafted) in the country are form the south-east for a reason.

It is estimated that a boy born to Samoan parents is 56 times more likely to get into the NFL than other kids in America. Mostly as linemen, as other non-skill positions (as we call them) second, then as skill positions third. Why? Because, on average, samoan's are a big people. So of course i'd love to see the top poly's on byu's team. And of course from what I already said earlier, I'd love to have more top level black players.

It's ok for us to openly accept that people have evolved differently from each other. Not a big deal imo. (Yes, evolution is a real thing.) I don't hear many say, man we need more vietnamese players on our football team. And that's ok. Some peoples have evolved to being on average taller/shorter than others, some larger/smaller than others, some faster/slower than others. It just is what it is.

And of course you can find the Savanah st's of the world, who have a lot of black players that are a horrible team since they get the last pick of the recruits in their area and everywhere else.

If a top 4 team can be accomplished with a lot of top white guys, so be it, but the odds are low and history has shown that byu will not usually have enough top level white players in a given year for that to happen. We do indeed need better athletes on our team. And when I see the best athletes on the best teams like Alabama, they are black for a reason in my mind. The same reason why the top 224 100 meter times were produced by black guys. The best of the best black guys are great athletes, usually even better than the best of the best white/ploy/asian/etc, guy's who compete in sports that require great combo athletes who excel simultaneously in the power/strength/speed/quickness areas, like football, basketball, track, etc, require.

Imo, Byu need's better players first. Better on field coaching second. So really, byu need's better recruiting first (easier said than done), and better on field coaching (a close) second, yet both are accomplished by the coaches.

(Side-note): Yet when we lose games like the one this year against Nevada, I put more of the weight on the players who fumbled the ball multiple times among other poor plays first, and blame the coaches second. In other games, I've put the loss more on the coaches than the players. But on the whole, I find myself as a former athlete, putting more weight on the players than the coaches cause I always felt like I could do more to win the game than the coaches could when I was out on the court/field.

For example, in Mushing, you gotta have the dogs, if you don't, it doesn't matter how good of a whipper you are. Same in coaching. Gotta have talented players or it does not matter what type of O you run, how good at x's and o's you are, or how good of a motivator you are. With great talent, many different schemes have proven successful, both simple and complex types of offenses.

Of course on the other hand, a bad whipper (coach) can and usually will mess up a good group of dogs (players). But in byu's case, when we lose, much of the time it's just a case of simply running up against a better pack of dogs - maybe less so in certain seasons though. Which is why again it goes back to recruiting being #1. (End side-note)

So basically, when someone chimes in and says we need to recruit more of the top (insert race) players to our program, I am fine if someone else then chimes in with another race's top players that would also be great to have on our team. Even if one group is more realistic to get to play for us than another group.

We already have white, poly, and black players on our team. What we need is more of the upper-level ones.

This all wasn't directed at you Zach, your post just got me typing.
