I commented on the incredible growth of the Studio Soccer Skit on Friday
I offended some because I said I didn't think it was that funny. But let me be clearer about the point of my post.

Why has it taken off like it has? Is it that the content is really that great? Has it been truly viral or is it that BYUtv has done some things to accelerate it?

That was on my mind because I had just come out of a meeting with some folks that raised $70K on Kickstarter. Basically their campaign had been carefully orchestrated using all kinds of 3rd party resources to get the marketing message right and to push the social messages. After all was said and done, they had spent the majority of the proceeds on Orchestrating the campaign.

It seems like Kickstarter is less and less about funding a garage-based startup and and more and more about being part of the overall marketing strategy of a going concern. Same with say, Shark Tank. In that case it's more about exposure and partnership than any kind of money they'll take away from it.

So basically I'm wondering if the Studio C skit is along those lines. Is it really that funny or is it a carefully orchestrated social media campaign by BYUtv?
