In the season before BYU's other two trips to the Maui, the Cougars had played in the NCAA Tournament. That trend will hold true this season, as the Cougars played in the 2014 NCAA Tournament.

In the 1992-93 season, BYU went on to play in the NCAA Tournament. However, in the 2004-05 season, they did not.

BYU's all-time record in the Maui Invitational is 3-3. 2 of those wins came in 1992, and the 3rd, against Chaminade, came in 2004.

IMO, this is one of the top 2 basketball pre-season invitationals, along with the NIT. Fellow WCC member Gonzaga will play in the NIT later this week.
