I am a huge fan of The Beatles, and remember being crushed when I read
the book: "The Love You Make" that includes all kinds of sordid details about securing women/girls for after concert romps. Such a lifestyle is so foreign to me. I guess I grew up thinking that my heroes were supposed to think and act like me while being ensnared by all the wiles of fame and fortune. Cosby's story, if true, is not unique. The thing that makes it so strange is that it is so contrary to the responsible, moral person he has always portrayed himself to be - like the really cool father next door who has all of life's answers.

There is a good lesson here from Mormon, who wrote: "all things which are hid must be revealed upon the house-tops." (Mormon 5:8.) We can have secret lives and hide it for a time, but one day it will all become known.

I hate to give in to the public lynching of Cosby, frankly. It is odd that someone like Bill Clinton, who served as POTUS and publicly lied about his sexual activities in the White House, or John Kennedy, who was a well known womanizer as PTOUS (i.e. not the good family man he portrayed himself to be) are enshrined as men so great that their escapades don't really matter. But, because Cosby is not a flaming liberal, but has been an advocate for good conservative valves and has been critical of the general black culture that promotes African Americans to live on the dole, blame everyone else for circumstance and be unproductive. If Cosby was a liberal putz, he would be even more of a hero and no one would care about any of this.

I would venture that most highly successful people in the entertainment industry (or otherwise) (not all, but more than 50%) have a serious past and flaws they would like to keep hidden from the public. I once thought fame and fortune was the way to happiness. However, with time, I have to admit that I have never really seen this work out for many. Even among those to whom I am fairly close who became wealthy, there is a price that comes with it that requires great restraint and self control. It is a great thing to see someone so successful as Mitt Romney to maintain perspective and stay focused on family values.
