I am a good way through Code Academy's course on HTML and CSS. I want to complete that and go through their other courses - Javascript, jQuery, Python, Ruby, and PHP. That should be a good foundation towards improved job prospects or even better, a job I can do remotely (from wherever I happen to be - assuming I have reasonable internet connection). I would love a job with increased flexibility in terms of schedule and opportunities. I might even tackle C# after that. It's amazing the things one can learn online at no cost.
It's shocking how in this day and age, some people can have the latest smartphone, an enormous HD TV, or all the latest game consoles and gadgets, but gripe how they're trapped in their circumstances. They're trapped alright, but the one trapping them can be found at their closest mirror. I think if I could work my way into a remote work job/position I would like to take advantage of the flexibility and help with mentoring youth in areas that struggle with generational poverty so they can see that there are alternatives. It might be cool if schools in the rougher areas could create a program to enlist the help of people who have the flexibility of remote work to help out their youth with mentoring. With the right influences, maybe some impoverishing cycles could be broken.
