Carlino doesn't care what you want ...
He wanted starter's minutes in his last season, and that
motivated his decision to transfer. He could see that the
emergence of Fischer, once eligible, would probably take
minutes and possibly the starter's role from him.

As a backup, Rose would rather have Carlino than H., but
that was not acceptable to him, so he transferred.

The reality is that certain athletes do want a shot at the
NBA or at least Europe, and if they see that their senior
season may likely be in a reserve or 6th man role with
fewer minutes, that interferes with their career goals.

I wish Carlino well and, like you, will follow him. However,
I also respect his compete right to transfer if his heart
is not 100% 'in' to Rose's team-first approach. We don't
own him.

History will tell, but Marquette may end up being a better
'fit' for his skill set. It's too early to judge that, although
erupting for 38 will have made an impression on his
coaches and teammates. At BYU, we saw Carlino shoot
us into games and win them. He also shot us out of
games, as a classic hot vs. cold shooter. The whole
season is needed to judge 'fit' in such cases.

NBA or European scouts will look at all of this -- and
if he improves to eliminate his worst games with many
missed shots, to where he stops shooting when he is
cold, and thus has only high scoring games or medium
scoring games where his percent of FG completion is
always positive, some pro team may like what they see.

I'm pulling for him.

Since BYU often competes against teams who have
better athletes, Coach Rose needs all of his guys to
buy in 100% to their system. It's a lot to ask, but
that's the only way to make up for the lack of equal
talent at all positions. Only the individual player can
honestly determine if he is willing to 'buy in' to that
kind of team-first commitment.

Carlino brought us many fine games, but if he felt
it was time to move on, it was time.
