I think I have been looking to buy a camcorder for about the last 5+ years and have never bought one. I just keep using my iPhone and making do with that. But my kids are getting older and I'd like to be able to shoot more video games, concerts and awesome stuff they do...

Given that I use my phone now, one of the biggest criteria for me it will be convenience. With today's technology, what are the main things I will be choosing between? Is the storage media mostly SD cards or are there other valid options there? I'd like a good quality zoom, which I expect I will want both optical and digital zoom. Any other major features or decisions I will need to make when choosing one?
