I decided to take my 7 year old son. I told him all the way up there how crazy of an environment it was gonna be. Think it freaked him out a bit. When we got in there, the Aggie-Bull guy was wandering around us with silly string cans. I knew he was gonna spot us. Once he did, I told him, hey, do me a favor, just get me instead of him (pointing to my boy). He sprayed me down. All in good fun.
After that, everything was great, it was the first time my boy had really gotten into a game. He liked all the chants from the Aggie crowd. No one said a thing to us, as I thought would happen. We were really respectful as well.
As for the game. I knew that when they made Haws mad, that was ball game. I thought Haws over reacted but I'm glad it happened. We got lucky. I think USU missed enough layups to where they coulda been right there at the end. USU is worse than UVU. That is a horrible team. I know that we're not a great defensive program but if it doesn't get better, we're going to have plenty of let downs. The rebounding, on the other hand, looked much better than it had. Glad that improved but the defense needs to at least limit the amount of shots our opponent gets at the rim.
After the game, I solidified my spot as worst father of the century by asking my kid if he wanted to wait a bit longer and get pics with the team. Of course he did and since I don't know how to embed them here, here are the links to the tweets:
So instead of getting home between 12 and 1 on a school night, we got home at 2:30 AM. The boy slept most of the way and he is up and ready for school now.
Overall, one of the most memorable nights as a Cougar fan ever. I also hear that this is the stuff these kids remember as well so we'll see on that.
