So given the debacle last year where Pepperdine was left out of the finals, in favor of Lewis, the NCAA then decided to create an RPI poll that will be taken into account when deciding who the at large teams are for future final selections. Anyone that isn't biased or follows the true strength of a conference, knows Pepperdine was heads and shoulders the best team left, them being ranked on average of 4th and Lewis 10th, the whole year...
A post from Vinny Lopes (
http://www.offtheblockblog.com/2014/12/ncaa-releases-documents-on-2014-tournament-selection-process/) shows what the ranking of teams would've been last year had this newly created RPI been in place.
The results are unreal...
*Overall RPI has Loyola, Lewis and Penn St tops (ridiculous)
*Conf RPI ranking has the MIVA tops (ridiculous)
*SOS rankings doesn't have an MPSF team till #4 on the list (ditto)
*And the one that actually makes me the most mad, OOC SOS has four MPSF teams tops. Makes me mad, because every MPSF hater always points to the MPSF as having a weak OOC SOS, and this proves otherwise. So not only does the MPSF play in the hardest conference (in reality), half of those teams play a strong OOC SOS.
So why an RPI if it doesn't accomplish it's goal? Pretty upset that from now on, going fwd, the MPSF gains NOTHING for playing eachother in such a tough conference, and the other conferences will just smile and reap the rewards...
