I think part of it is just how many plays they run
Sanchez was passing for 7.5 yards/attempt and a 74% completion percentage. The 7.5 isn't amazing, but isn't at all bad. LeSean McCoy needs more carries, but did have 22, which also isn't a terrible number when Mark Sanchez was moving the offense and completing nearly everything he attempted. Throwing too much is generally only a huge problem when it's setting up 3rd and long too often and allowing the other team to dominate time of possession with 3 and outs. We've seen that quite a bit with BYU in the past. But, even without running as much, the Eagles still won the TOP battle by over 4 minutes and rarely experienced a 3-and-out.

The drives ended in: a sack on 3rd and 14, a touchdown by LeSean McCoy, a sack on 3rd and 4, a Mark Sanchez touchdown, an incomplete pass on 3rd and 11, a missed field goal, another missed field goal, a Mark Sanchez touchdown, a made field goal, an interception on 3rd and 4, and then an incomplete hail mary attempt.

Drives were sustained so that 6 of 10 ended in scoring opportunities (this omits the one-play hail mary drive at the end, which would be the 11th drive). For me, the biggest stats were the missed field goals, both of which were under 50 yards. The offense did enough to win and should have at least served up a tie game if both field goals under 35 yards were made.
