We took kids. Safe and awesome. Very, very, very low key though, so if that's not what you're interested in, maybe it's not for you. It's just a nice place to hang on the beach. Not much in the way of other activities.

Been to Belize a few times as well and I'd very highly recommend it. Great place. Safe. English speaking. You can use american cash. Best and easiest snorkeling in the world, and every kid loves that. We've been to amburgris caye there. Some other spots are a little less family friendly (and more college kid friendly). But amburgris would be great for your crew.
