My great-great grandpa died in Somme, and then his son and my great grandpa (6 months old at the time great great grandpa died) spent 5 years in a German POW camp while his wife and two daughters lived in a refugee camp. the Christmas truce always gets me teared up, thinking of those boys who had to fight a completely pointless war and the citizens who just wanted to live a normal life but couldn't because of kings and rulers who were all too willing to throw lives away.
