Hey, I am a realistic optimist. I am a BYU fan through and through, and win or lose, I will always cheer on my cougars. No, I am not a troll. No I am not a Ute. Having said that,

Utah, in the past few years, have clearly pulled ahead of us as evidenced by making it, to not one, but two, BCS bowls and in one of them, beating Alabama. (Fiesta Bowl). We have never made it to even one BCS Bowl.

Utah in the past few years, have clearly pulled ahead of us as evidenced by making it to a P5 conference. Today, that conference, having passed the great SEC, made it to be the #1 conference in the Nation, (The Pac 12). We have not been able to come close to that except in our own unrealistic talk.

Utah, in this past year, has clearly pulled ahead of us as evidenced by being Nationally ranked, even after playing 8 or more P5 teams in the season. We were not able to come close.

With all of Utah’s success, with their newly found self esteem, they seemed to have grown up a lot, by not hating us so much and by actually feeling sorry for us. They no longer waste their time with hateful remarks, because they are no longer looking for success over us because they have clearly
found that success and no longer need to.

With all of their new found money, being a member of the Pac 12, they will continue to command more of the better athletes which in return, will make they even richer over us.

Remember they do not have the limitations of a HC needing to be LDS in good standing, and they do not have the limitations of being paid only about a third of what other P5 teams get, like we do,
and they do not have our type of Honor Code to contend with so as long as we keep doing business as usual, they will only continue to grow above us, widening the gap further and further each year that goes by.

We either have to get use to that fact, or we need to stop doing business as usual, and realize that the old ways that worked so well for us for all of our history up until now, just no longer works for us. Until we change the ways we do things, Utah has left us in their dust.

We need to stop bashing Utah and start praising them for their success and maybe in some way,
if they actually start liking us, and if they start talking in the Pac 12 about wanting us as their rival, they may someday have the extra vote needed to invite us into the Pac 12. What a friend that would be, if only we could allow it.
