RE: So was Anae supposed to put a 5'10 170 dude out there as our QB or
That's ridiculous you say his brother was noticeably slower and didn't merit a D-1 scholarship. What do you know? He ran by everyone in HS at Timpview! If a legit low to mid 4.5 40 yard dash does not merit a D-1 scholly especially at BYU with all his HS accolades (State Champ + 4A State MVP award), what would? What I know about Britain's older bro is that he wanted a shot at QB or slot WR. Bronco wanted him as a safety and he worked out as such during his first year at BYU and did very well. Bronco loved him there but Covey felt most comfortable on the offensive side of the ball having never played defense at Timpview (they rarely use a kid both ways). Bronco praised him many times for his work as the scout QB making the first team Defense look silly on occasion. And usually Anae, Bronco or any good coach in his right mind would find a way to reward a guy who makes the defense noticeably better and prepared for running quartebacks. Rather than award such behavior, Anae acted like a bonehead towards him and was short and rude to him (Bob Anae has been that with others too). Simply put, Anae didn't like him from day one. He picks and chooses certain guys he likes and if they somehow get in his doghouse, it's over for them regardless of their talent. I'm not saying he isn't a family guy or in good standing with his faith but rather someone who comes across as odd and unapproachable. He cannot relate to players well at all. I have heard from a very close source the way Covey got treated and it was ridiculous to say the least. I will not name my source to protect that person but I know this to be a fact and that Anae is not a players coach in the least. He is extremely unapproachable and is pathetic with PR which we all have seen. While he has had some success here, he is only an above average OC at best. His QB's and good surrounding talent have made him look good in the past. It's unfortunate BYU couldn't land Covey or Empey but it is not just the fact that both have a shot to play in the Pac-12, great players want to play for good coaches who will treat them with dignity and respect while at the same time lighting a fire under them when necessary. Everyone needs to be pushed to their limits but never humiliated or belittled in front of their teammates period. Britain will tear it up at Utah and be back at the goal line to return the first kickoff vs Michigan for Utah's opener. That is a fact! It's in print here. He is so legit and the most electrifying playmaker this state has ever seen. I still love BYU football but understand why he chose Utah and wish him nothing but tremendous success while there.
