You are spot on and far too many people including most DIY'ers and many so called technicians have not done their home work on this issue and there is always the possibility of a manufacturer recommending that you change the brake fluid. Fresh clean fluid that has good quality base stock and additives will help your brakes work better and to reduce potential wear and degradation of the brake system over time.

Also, as stonecougar was not personally there to look in the brake fluid reservoir or to test and assess the brakes, I would not put much stock in his absolute black and white claims. If the fluid is cloudy or looks dirty, of course it should be changed.
