Red Auerbach worked hard to try to bring him to the Celtics. Kres felt his calling was to stay in Croatia. In his time, he was the most famous basketball player in Europe. His greatness in the Church and on the court has not brought him commensurate reverence or fame among the broader body of Church members outside of the Leadership. Funny but he is more revered in Europe and in the memory of his peer Bill Walton than among LDS.
