The ACC's announcement is a monumental brick in the wall.
It's not the entire war, but BYU just won a huge off the field battle in terms of national perception, even if many don't realize the full impact yet.

Look at what TH has done with scheduling over the last 2-3 years:

The PAC-12 has 21 future games scheduled against BYU.
The Cougars have recently announced H/H deals with Michigan State and Missouri, and a neutral site game against LSU in Houston.
The ACC announced today that they now officially consider BYU a P5 opponent.

The on the field issues remain the same, but BYU is killing it off the field right now. Yes, it would be great to be invited to the Big 12 today. But that may never happen. If it doesn't, BYU will be Independent. And as many said at the outset, Independence could give BYU the CHANCE to work it's way into P5 status. And the announcement today is a huge step in the right direction.

Missouri and Arizona's AD's have said that they consider BYU "like a P5 opponent." That was good. This is better. BYU now has official P5 recognition as an opponent from one of the 5 P5 conferences.
