Billy Bean (A's GM) says this, I would take the 50th best player in CA over the

best player in Idaho, because I know the kid from California knows how to play against the best talent around. The kid from Idaho, may or may not know how to play against other top talent. I will take the kid I know has been there, because I know what I am getting.

I met Billy Bean about 2 years ago for a company event... he is not shy about bucking the system, and it is difficult to argue with his results.
