... 1 loss likely leaves BYU in contention for a NY6 bowl and a very outside shot at playoffs, like any other P5 school. If BYU loses 2 games, they probably aren't in contention for a conference title in any P5 conference anyway and are playing for rankings and bowl games like most teams.

Conference championships are nice, but they've been lessened in value with the advent of the playoff system. If BYU wants to be P5, they need to schedule like one. If they want to be on par with a P5 conference champ, they need to win like one. The conference title itself is just window dressing, IMO. BYU wouldn't have won a conference title the past few years anyway and they likely wouldn't have played in a bowl game any better than the ones we played in.

TH is getting BYU in position to be treated like a P5. If BYU wins vs those schedules, there'll be plenty to play for and plenty of fan excitement to keep everybody engaged (except for those fans who seem to prefer a half-empty view on everything - there's no help for them).
