Yes. Totally frustrating experience
I had been trying to get my family/siblings interested in doing a Family Reunion for years. I see what others do - including my son-in-law on both sides of his family - and want to do the same for my extended family. So finally I got concurrence from everyone to do it this last summer. I had all these great plans and ideas - where to go, what to do, etc, etc. We had found a place to do it. To make a long story short - the reunion went from being several days long to a single evening celebrating my parents anniversary. A big reason for it shrinking so much was some of my siblings were so tight with money - even though they make a very comfortable living. They and my parents are just too cheap. There were some internal family conflicts that contributed to it too. I was so disgusted with my siblings (I'm the oldest) that I have let it be known I am done organizing things for my extended family. (I had done several smaller things through the years as I felt it was my responsibility as the oldest.) From now on - I will focus on my kids and my family and we will do our own reunion. If one of my siblings wants to do anything - that's up to them, but my priority now is my own family.
