For what it's worth RE: Porter Gustin I'd like to share the following...
In 1995 or 1996 (been a while now) I had two friends suspended, expelled from school and banned from Utah High School athletics. Both friends went on to play out their senior years out of state.

Hazing was the charge. It was an extreme case of course but I find it interesting that prior to the "internet era" of 1995 and certainly a less politically correct time, the incident led the UHSAA to expel and ban 5 players for their offense.

Fast forward to the Information Age of 2015 and you find next zero about Porter Gustin's alleged incident online. Do I believe something happened? Of course. But surely if the offense was that bad he would have at least been suspended from play for a game, or a few games, or a season or even banned like my friends in 1995 right? That only makes sense.

The evidence is there that the kid did nothing bad enough to warrant his name being dragged through the mud by his fellow LDS brothers and sisters.

The more likely scenario is the staff simply wasn't interested for whatever their reasoning may be. Be it "attitude", "personality" abilities, skill set etc...

He clearly did nothing that is not forgivable even by BYU's strict standards or otherwise would have been dealt with legally.

So please stop running this young man's name through the mud. We should wish him well and feel bad it didn't work out for BYU.
