Let's get to know the history...I think it went something like this
1 - BYU's original official blue wasn't "royal" it was a dark
2 - One year (maybe in the 70's) the football uniforms came too royal by accident – I heard it was a mistake that they didn’t have the time or money to fix.
3 - Football just kept getting the same royal unis - the official BYU dark blue didn't change
4 - Even in the 70's and 80's BYU fans didn't tend to walk around town (or even go to the games) with royal blue on - who would?
5 - Who would - The only people who can feel comfortable wearing royal blue around town or to games are Kentucky natives, but they're just born that way, so don't stare or make fun.
6 - If the royal blue ever becomes the official color of BYU, the dress code will probably mandate platform shoes, gold chains, and disco polyester pants.

Final Thought - to me, the Royal Blues are a great tribute to the great LaVell Edwards era of brining BYU from the netherworld of football to national prominence, and I love seeing it on the field from time to time. It's great for the players too. But, I can't wear royal blue - I’m not from Kentucky. Are you?
