For the ones I know
Including Jason Buck, it's sometimes about that their kids can't all play at BYU. There just aren't enough scholarships for more than a handful of recruits from Utah every year. So their kids have to go somewhere else. The yewts get the second layer so some of the ones who can't interest BYU will end up there.

That was the case with Buck's son. Jason was very unhappy about it at the time and has apparently never got over it. He thought his son was good enough to get a BYU scholarship and play for the Cougars. But he wasn't good enough to play at the yewts either, or anywhere else. Still, there is a lot of bitterness over it. Some guys think they earned it. They didn't but they think they did.

I know from close experiences that devoted BYU former players/dedicated fans will turn when it comes down to supporting Junior. That's just how it is. Can't blame them. Blood is thicker than BYU sparkle punch.
