Help me understand Khari Vanderbilt and this academic situation with byu.
So Khari was being recruited by both byu and usu. With his early commitment to byu and then him stating he was choosing between the two schools I'm sure other D1 teams that would've come into play backed off.

These details are a little blurry, but getting close to signing day usu had another DB they really liked that would commit to usu. Because Khari hadnt committed yet and they weren't sure with him, they did pull his scholarship offer and gave it to someone else, leaving byu as basically khari's only offer.

Then it turns out he can't qualify academically for byu and now he's left scrambling. My question is, how does a kid not know the academic situation? Does byu have a higher standard then what the ncaa requires that they are firm on? Or do they sometimes bend it depending on a case by case basis and decided not to for Khari? Do the coaches not communicate this very well?

I'm just confused how it gets to that point. You'd think he would've know the academics thing sooner with byu and either then committed to usu or opened up his recruiting a few weeks before signing day. It's an unfortunate situation for the kid.
