My daughter was invited to a "sweet 16" party for a girl in our ward. Her father rented a ballroom at a local hotel and invited over 100 guests. It was a full ball with gowns, live music, catering... it was beyond incredible. The daughter openly bragged that he spent well over $3000 on the party - besides the new (slightly used) car.

Two weeks later he posted a gofundme on facebook to raise money to adopt a child. Ward members donated thousands.
