I would have been lost and intimidated if I had shown up at BYU as a freshman from my small town. A mission and two years at my local JC really helped me prepare for upper level classes much more than if I had shown up as a freshman. So to those who didn't get in as freshmen, all is not lost, and may end being for the better. My daughter is much more mature and grounded than I was as a freshman, so I think she will be fine, but I think lots of boys may do better to first hit a JC.
