And, looking on paper, I'm not entirely sure why. But I know watching the two games, BYU really pushed Gonzaga. I felt really strongly, after the first game and how tight the game was, that we could beat Gonzaga. I predicted that we'd win in the Conference finals, rather than at Gonzaga, because they have a huge homecourt advantage. I also knew that Kaufusi, Neilson, and Andrus would get better as the season progressed.

I think it is very possible to beat Gonzaga a second time but it will be tough. As Gonzaga has shown both times we've played, they will play tough to the very end and BYU has to be able to also bring it at the end. I also have questions about how effective we might be playing our third game in four nights.

Having said that, this team is better situated for a tournament as we have more scoring options and more players who can contribute, which becomes important in a tournament like this as players get worn down. I also like the way the bracket sets up with an easier game the first night, likely St. Marys on Monday, and then likely Gonzaga. I'm not sure I'd go as high as 50/50 odds but I do think BYU has a decent chance to pull another upset.
