So not just an option (with a single potential lateral), but imagine a formation with a bunch of guys lined up and either passing it down the line for multiple laterals where any one can cut/dive for a 3-4 yard gain or occasional breakaway - like you see all the time in rugby. Spread the linemen out super wide, and drop them back to use them since they're not eligible receivers but can receive a lateral. Do it in a way that guarantees a bunch of 1:1 matchups.

At first, opponents wouldn't know how to defend, but once they catch on over time you could go back to regular plays and keep them guessing.
