It's a family friendly town/county. Major employers are the University (Valdosta State University), the Regional Medical Center (South Georgia Medical Center), and the Air Force base (Moody AFB-currently a home to A-10 squadrons). I would categorize the ward as medium-sized. There are two school districts (Valdosta City Schools and Lowndes county schools). High school football is a BIG deal down here--with a number of successful teams. Lots of shopping, restaurants, etc. It can feel a bit isolated. The nearest big cities are Tallahassee, Jacksonville, and Orlando to the South and Atlanta to the North. Nearest LDS temples are in Orlando and Atlanta.
Hot and humd in the summers but winters are mild. Cost of living isn't bad. Housing is quite affordable but consumer goods (groceries, etc) are a bit more than you would expect in a city the size of Valdosta.
Feel free to ask more specific questions or send me a board mail.
