My wife and I are looking for a place to spend in the Northeast or New England area. We live in Southern California. We don't care for the big city (i.e. New York, Boston, etc.). We are looking for a little more open space than that. We haven't spent much time in the NE so we don't know where to go or what to see. We are not looking for an amusement park type atmosphere. A bed and breakfast in New England sounds good, but not a requirement, but I have no idea where to go or what cool places there are to see -- I'm sure there are plenty, however. We like good places to eat, even if they are out of the way (not big city nice restaurants).

I'm not sure what to ask, but do any of you have any good suggestions?
