he needs to elevate the program through better recruiting, wins, higher profile wins, tournament wins and building things gradually.

A good start would be a WCC title or tourney title. BYU needs to walk before it can run. Unfortunately too many of us think they are already running when they are barely walking when it comes to competing at an elite level on the floor let alone on the recruiting trail.

If your program is attractive enough the LDS kids who are special enough will come. If it isn't, I am not surprised when they don't. They don't owe BYU anything.
