Most of the problem on 3rd down defense was the front seven not the secondary.
Zone coverage self-destructs when you have no pass rush. There are too many chances for receivers to find the seams.
Throw in corners who were trying to play the man and not the ball -- in a zone coverage scheme -- and you have crap like the USU game.
