Independence, with BYU's solid history, and the fact that it is no longer in a mid-major conference, allowed BYU to shed the cloak of being a mid major. With BYU's fanbase, brand, schedules, and long term sustained success, that never really fit quite right anyway.

It's taken a couple years, but Independence is allowing BYU to be grouped more and more with the major conferences and schools.
