Still doesn't make sense to vent your frustrations on a kid that stepped up
to fill a major void. Again, who else was going to step up? Davis? For all his speed, Davis wasn't ready to play defense until about the ND game that season. He couldn't break down and he couldn't make a tackle. So why? Why rip on the kid who put himself out there and gave his all?

Coming off a foot injury, we fans knew our BC was a weak link. That means opposing defenses knew he was a weak link. How often was he burned? Up until the ND game, how often was he burned? Texas' star WR with NFL talent and speed only burned him once.

The truth is that PoVey, given his talent, held his own in 2013. At the end of the day, we had a pretty decent year defending the pass in 2013, especially when you consider we had Rob Daniel, a converted safety coming off a foot injury who was planning on quitting football to focus on school, and really nobody else we could count on at corner for most of the season.

It's hard enough for me to understand why PoVey wasn't given credit by you in the moment (I say "you" but you weren't alone in your criticism although many on CB did express gratitude for the effort PoVey was giving us at corner), but to rip on him still in hindsight even though you know all the details the led to him being forced to play corner for us? I just don't get that.

A guy who steps up in our hour of need and gives us his best should be praised, not ripped on. Think of it this way: did you rip on Corbin Kaufusi this year as he fumbled his way through playing center for the basketball team, or were you happy that he was stepping up and giving us his best, which was better than anybody else on the team could give us? Probably not, and why is that? Because we got better from Corbin than we should have reasonably expected. The truth, we got way better from PoVey at corner than we should have reasonably expected. Given his natural limitations, he should have been burned a heck of a lot more times, but he wasn't. Every corner to ever play the game will get burned from time to time. Feel free to name a college corner past or present that was never burned and I'll show you a corner who never left the bench.

Piling on a kid that's giving us his best is a sore spot with me for some reason. I see it happen on this board way too often. I understand ripping on a kid that we know could play better and isn't. I don't understand ripping on a kid giving us his best. Sorry for the long rant.
