In order for BYU to be sustainable in sports, they need an influx of cash. The ONLY way for that to happen in the long term for ALL BYU sports is to be in a conference where funding from TV contracts will provide the BEST, steady income. Going to donors for extra cash, is not the "long" term solution. BYU knows it, has known for a while and all processes from BOT to BYU have been and are being pointed to that cause.

Bronco only relevance is to control, manage the items in front of him which is to 1. Field a coaching staff, system to handle the demands of a hard season (better conditioning, more expectations, etc) 2. Ensure that the system he has in place for such "runs" are indeed up to the point of better competition (because Bronco truly believes) playing against better teams IS the better way to approach this and 3. Bronco has no control over the funding and back end (he is aware, need to know basis) but processes address this.

This is the pattern BYU has operated forever and that won't change (nor should it). The idea of wait and see what is better isn't washing with Bronco, he is taking the bull by the horn and saying, I want to do this and coaches, players who is on board. Bronco taking over the defense IS HUGE this year, he has to, as there is NO other way to deal with it.

I fully Bronco (and know you do as well) in this regard. Take ownership, stop "tinkering" with things, start establishing a constant mindset and if coaches are not pulling their weight (sure read Nick Howell here) then fire them. Simple, but Bronco clearly knows time isn't on his side.
