Monson is in a situation where he needs to be somewhat impartial
He covers all the schools and the yewts are the big SLC school so he's got to cater to who the fans are. That's his job and he has to do it.

I've heard that Gordon is, or was, a Cougar Club member and I have no reason to doubt it. His daughter played tennis for BYU last year. A couple of other daughters played for the yewts and the aggies. People support their kids so of course he's going to have to support all the schools. It's the way it works.

I seriously doubt Monson has any particular disdain for BYU. He's written some stuff in support of BYU and other times seemed to be anti-BYU. But sometimes the truth and facts hurt. He sees it as his job to write articles with opinions on sports programs and those who run them. This has ruffled some feathers at all the schools from time to time. Sports reporters are not beloved by coaches and administrators. That's also the way it works, it's the name of the game.

Monson probably doesn't like Bronco and the feeling is probably mutual. But Gordon has been on the outs with yewt coaches at times as well.

But who really cares whether Gordon Monson is a BYU fan or not or whether he hates BYU and our coaches or not? We don't have to read his articles or listen to his radio program, which, for the most part, I don't do. Once in a while he writes a good article but most of them are just trash. I'm no big fan of Monson or any other sports writer. So I don't much care if he's a BYU fan or not.

I can't blame him for pointing out the rise in yewt football over BYU football. He's right, the PAC12 is a huge boost for the yewts. BYU is on the outside looking in and it gets grimmer by the minute. We've got to do something about it. The question is, what and how?
