I have a MBA and love it. Sometimes wish I had some more power and better graphics, but if you're not playing games or doing something really heavy processor wise you'll be fine. I have a 13" and take it with me whenever I travel. I'm also surprised that no one has their laptops with them because they say they are too heavy. I hardly notice mine in my bag.

I bought the AmazonBasics external drive (http://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Portable-External-Optical-Drive/dp/B003M0NT1M). It looks like it its no longer available but there are several options on there from other companies. Cheaper than the Apple one and work just as well. Mine sits in a drawer and gets used maybe once ever two months.
