But in my world (tech finance) I wouldn't do it unless applying online and it says it's required. I think it gives a reviewer more of an opportunity to find something they don't like than it does to show them something great. If done well, it can be great. If not, it's just easier to rule you out. I always lean towards not doing it unless there's a specific story I'm trying to convey that isn't clear in my resume.
