I think it's fine if you're in a parking lot that doesn't usually fill up.
Now, at my student apartments in Provo, if some idiot brings their massive truck from home, I want to key the thing, because our complex regularly has more car drivers than parking spots and spots aren't assigned/paid for. We can't spare a single spot for someone with a gigantic vehicle.

If you need to park somewhere with very limited spots, NEVER EVER EVER EVER drive your large truck to go there. Please. If you know there is always tons of parking, I think you're fine.
