Some on this board clamor for real money to go to coaches so that byu can get more high profile assistants. I think the reason that byu is one of relatively few schools in the black - despite their much lower revenue, is that it spends efficiently and has some wonderful donor support. Also, many coaches could be making more elsewhere, but they buy into byu and what it stands for.
For my part, I'm happy to see byu putting more money into its student athletes, even though Provo has a much lower cost of living than p5 school areas do. Money talks and we are seeing what is important to the school.
