The Jazz dont want to deal with the BYU fans slamming the organization for him
sitting on the bench. Signing him makes sense if you disregard the negatives that would happen if the fans who bought his jersey or tickets didnt see him play.

They figure that its easier to not deal with that potential headache than it is to have the chance that he may work out in the system.

The other thing is that the Jazz want players who can play D. They dumped Kanter even though he was getting points both because of attitude issues but because he wasnt playing inside the system. Once he was gone the Jazz got even better on defense and won a higher percentage of games.
