Notsure if mine was a hip flexor, but with my first marathon
Training I got severe hip pain. Ice helped a ton and so long as I iced it for at least 30 mins it slowly got better over a course of a month.

my recommendation. Run less outside and buy a bike. Not nearly as many nagging injuries. Triathlons are more gratifying than run races as well, if you're into either.
