Exactly.
As noted in my post above, the antitrust laws are so complex that with top-dollar defense attorneys, Apple or Microsoft believe that they will win some and lose some in predictable anti-trust litigation. When they lose, it is cynically viewed as a 'cost of doing business.' In the years that pass while the litigation takes place, their charged action weakens or completely eliminates some potential competitors during those years, so in their eyes, that's good.
