Kids are not mature enough to handle all that comes with it
That is the big deal. I don't doubt that you have exceptional children that make better decisions than mine and you probably trust them a lot more.

I don't trust my children not to abuse the technology in their pocket. I am not just talking about porn use, although a concern, there are other issues. A lot of these kids get addicted to their phone using different apps, games, and texting. We have to teach our kids how to use the phone, what is appropriate, when is it appropriate, etc.

Here is my experience: My oldest is 13. We got him a dumb phone two months ago. All it can do is text and call. Our house rule was that the phone was to be put at the charging center in the kitchen every night by 9:00 p.m. and that we (my wife and I) need to know who he is texting. Any deleted texts will cause the phone to be taken away. Two weeks ago, I am looking on line re the bill and see a high number of texts from his phone. The report indicates that he was texting from 11 pm to 2 am. on a school night, mind you. All texts that he deleted. Perhaps this is no big deal, perhaps he was discussing the scriptures with this girl, I don't know but it seems like a stupid decision, to get out of bed and get the phone he left in the kitchen and text all night. It seems like a pretty big deal to me.
