My rant about your rant about my rant.
Here's the OP: http://www.cougarboard.com/board/message.html?id=14045038

Nothing about the best pitchers always winning championships. I simply said they advance their teams disproportionately compared to those without dominating pitchers.

Nothing about how no other team sports suffer from competitive participation/contribution imbalances similar to softball, because indeed they do, but not at the level seen in WSB.

Nothing about cartels always winning in women's sports. That was the opinion of a different poster on the thread.

Please at least read my OP before responding.

I respect that you like softball. My contention is that the outcomes of a team sport, by its very nature, should reward meaningful contribution from as many players as possible and not just one. The degree to which ONE player should be allowed to influence the outcome of a TEAM sport ought to be considered in the rules adopted by the governing body of that sport. I think NCAA Softball does a disservice to the sport by not regulating the degree to which games are decided by pitching/pitchers. I think women's softball would be even more entertaining if the outcomes rested more on the team as a whole than on any one player and I think I've demonstrated that defense (which is a key predictor of winning) in softball is markedly dominated by pitchers and to a degree not even approached by Major League Baseball, let alone any other team sport.
