RE: My rant about your rant about my rant.
I understand what you are saying. My point was obviously not well stated above. What I am saying is that although pitchers can have a strong effect on the game, that it takes a whole team effort to win said game. King Felix is much the same way, carrying some very bad teams to wins whenever he starts. The Mariners, I am sure, would pitch him every game if the arm movement of throwing overhand did not take such a toll on a shoulder over an entire MLB season. The limitation of fatigue and injury concerns in baseball are very real. Softball pitchers have to be in peak physical condition to pitch multiple games in a week or day and should be credited for maintaining that fitness level to remain healthy.

I understand where you are coming from with stats about strikeouts per inning being higher for some softball pitchers compared to a baseball pitcher, but such numbers are not unheard of in baseball. There have been MLB pitchers, like Johan Santana in 2004, that have gone over 1.0 strikeout per inning (for his career his K/inning is 0.97). Minnesota was a very good team that year because of Santana and could not compete for the AL Championship when he left. Such pitchers in softball and baseball are rare, but do help teams transcend their talent level.

Bull's numbers are highly inflated by a very strong freshman season (1.19 strikeouts per seven innings). Bull's strikeouts per inning number is actually down this year (0.98) and the team is better this year than last. The reason for the improvement of the team is that Bull is not counted on as much to strikeout every batter for the out with an improved defense behind her.

What I was trying to say in my previous post was that even a dominating pitcher cannot carry you to a championship. A complete team effort, particularly on defense and offense, is needed to reach the pinnacle of your game.
