He had a bad upbringing, and was horrible to his own kids. Nothing IMO
on the field where he was obviously brilliant makes up for that, and it wasn't that he didnt know better, as the article points out. And unfortunately those same kids lived (and died in the case of John Henry) and continue to live with angst and pain. Thats a really really bad thing as a parent. Did he try at times to redeem himself, of course.
