I would love it, but I doubt there is any professional sport in America...
...that is popular enough to support a viable relegation/promotion system. Soccer is king in Europe. Fans will largely still follow their team in a lower level.
I think the only sports identity strong enough to withstand that in the US is college athletics. Just my opinion though.
