well, it's actually become more of a memorial of all those dear to us who have
passed, including military members lost...

Memorial Day is more like the Chinese version of Tomb Sweeping Day where they go to visit the graves of their dearly departed, clear away the weeds, wash off the dust and dirt, and leave flowers and 'food' for their ancestors and relatives...

this is how I remember Memorial Day in the US since I was a lad, with the except that there was a memorial sunrise service outside the court house/city hall to remember our servicemen as well.
